On the evening of May 31, as the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Art Festival, the opera epic “Long March” was performed at the Guangzhou Grand Theater. More than 1,000 audiences from all walks of life watched the performance and relive the long-lasting spirit of the Long March once again. The original opera “Long March” of the National Grand Theater tells the story of the difficult journey of the Workers and Peasants’ Red Army starting from Ruijin, climbing snow-capped mountains and crossing grasslands, and reaching northern Shaanxi in more than two years. Through the grand music, the Babaylan stage production combines epic and contemporary aesthetics. The play reproduces the arduous process of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army’s Long March with realistic techniques, and praises the lofty ideals and beliefs of striving and sacrificing for faith.

In the two years and six months of field trips, screenwriter Zou Jingzhi collected a large number of real characters. He finally chose the Fourth Regiment of the Second Division of the Central Red Army as the story prototype and focused on shaping the protagonist Zhengcomman Peng.
